The Two Byres

Nestled in the peaceful crofting community of Upper Halistra on the Isle of Skye’s breathtaking Waternish Peninsula, The Two Byres is an exceptional architect-designed home where contemporary luxury meets one of the island’s most spectacular settings. With panoramic views stretching from MacLeod’s Tables across Loch Bay to the distant Outer Hebrides, it offers an unforgettable escape for families and groups seeking space, comfort, and tranquillity.

The Space

Designed to celebrate its extraordinary surroundings, The Two Byres is filled with natural light, featuring expansive windows that frame ever-changing sea and mountain views. The spacious open-plan living area forms the heart of the home, seamlessly bringing together kitchen, dining area and lounge beneath soaring ceilings, with a wood-burning stove to gather around after a day exploring the island.

Patio doors open onto three separate decking areas, allowing guests to follow the sun throughout the day, enjoy alfresco dining, or simply pause with a morning coffee while watching the changing tides. Whether it’s sunrise over the hills or a spectacular Hebridean sunset, the landscape is always centre stage.

Sleeping up to six guests, the house features a luxurious king bedroom with en-suite shower room, alongside a double bedroom and a twin room served by a spacious family bathroom with both bath and separate walk-in shower. Practical touches include a utility room, secure storage for outdoor equipment, and underfloor heating throughout, ensuring every stay is as comfortable as it is memorable.

Built with sustainability in mind, The Two Byres is heated by an efficient air source heat pump, complemented by the warmth and ambience of the wood-burning stove during cooler evenings. On clear nights, the surrounding Dark Skies create exceptional opportunities for stargazing; during the winter months, you may even be lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing above the horizon.

The Two Byres enjoys an enviable position on the Waternish Peninsula, one of Skye’s most peaceful and captivating locations. Here, dramatic coastal scenery, abundant wildlife and a thriving community of local artisans combine to create an authentic island experience.

Just three miles away lies the picturesque village of Stein, home to the Michelin-starred Loch Bay Restaurant and The Stein Inn, Skye’s oldest inn, overlooking the harbour.

A short drive away, Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of Clan MacLeod, offers centuries of history and beautiful gardens, while nearby Coral Beach is famous for its striking white shoreline and crystal-clear waters. Whether you’re hiking along dramatic coastlines, spotting sea eagles and dolphins, exploring local galleries, or simply soaking up the views from the comfort of the house, Waternish offers a slower pace of life that captures the very best of Skye.

'From the very first moment, we loved this house. We were able to spend a week in this beautiful property, and we are very grateful for that. We were delighted by the thoughtful and aesthetically perfect Scandinavian interior design of the house. Even when we returned home from enjoying all the island's beauty, we looked forward to the wonderful views that The Two Byres offered us for the rest of the day. It was a wonderful week on the Isle of Skye. The sunshine made the colors shine, the mist bathed the island in a mystical atmosphere. The Two Byres has become a place of longing for us, one we would very much like to return to. How wonderful that this wonderful place exists. Thank you so much! '
