Tern House
Tucked away in the north-west of Skye at the heart of Waternish, Tern House is a peaceful island retreat designed for rest, comfort, and connection. Sleeping up to six guests, this lovingly restored Skye whitehouse offers breathtaking views that stretch across the peninsula to the Outer Hebrides. A short stroll down the lane lies the charming village of Stein, home to Skye’s oldest inn as well as the island’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, Loch Bay.

The Space
Originally a traditional Skye croft house, Tern House has been beautifully reimagined by award-winning Highland architects Dualchas. Today, it blends timeless character with modern comforts, offering a true home away from home.
Inside, you’ll find three light-filled bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and shower. The house comfortably sleeps six, with a super-king, a king, and a twin room to suit families and friends alike.
The open-plan living space is the heart of the house. A wood-burning stove invites cosy evenings together, while the kitchen — with its cherry-red Rangemaster oven, sleek granite worktops, and well-stocked cupboards — is made for sharing good food and laughter.
Fast fibre broadband keeps you connected, though you may find you’d rather switch off and simply soak up the views. Step outside and the raised picnic area offers panoramic sunsets and sweeping seascapes — dramatic, ever-changing, and often unforgettable.
The Area
Just an eight-minute stroll away, the picturesque village of Stein invites you to wander along its historic terrace, enjoy a drink at the Stein Inn, or indulge in the island’s finest dining at Loch Bay.
Waternish itself is alive with wildlife and beauty — from golden eagles and sea otters to dolphins and whales. Coastal walks, forest paths, and local attractions like Skyeskyns tannery (right next door) offer plenty to discover.
From award-winning fine dining to hearty pub fare, the area offers something for everyone. In addition to Michelin-starred Loch Bay and the Stein Inn, nearby gems include Edinbane Lodge, The Dunvegan, and Greshornish House — all within a short drive. For a special treat, The Three Chimneys is just 25 minutes away.
Tern House also makes the perfect base for exploring the island’s natural treasures. To the east lie the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing, and the magical Fairy Glen. To the west, Talisker Bay, the Fairy Pools, and the famous distillery await. Closer to home, you’ll find Dunvegan Castle, Coral Beach, and the rugged beauty of Waternish Point.
